Brian began working at CSI in 1996, and he purchased the business in 2002. As the owner, his primary role has changed from being an accountant to managing and growing the firm. Since 2002, the firm has grown substantially. In 2009, Brian started CSI’s payroll service to complement the accounting and tax services. In 2020, he built a new sales & marketing team, and in 2022 a new website, to continue to facilitate growth.
Brian received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota, with a double major in Accounting and Financial Management. He is a member of the National Society of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Accountants, the Independent Payroll Providers Association, and the Professional Association of Small Business Accountants (PASBA). At PASBA, Brian has emerged into a leader. He has served as a board member, and is a past president. He is a regular speaker and presenter at their events, and has won multiple awards including Large Accounting Firm of the year and the Lifetime Achievement Award. He has developed and teaches Universities within PASBA, helping other business owners achieve success. Brian was nominated by then-MN-governor Mark Dayton to serve on a Business Advisory Council for the state, whose purpose was to help disabled individuals find employment. He has also done other volunteer work in this same area over the years. He has also contributed to some business books, including Six Steps to Small Business Success, and The Lean Mean Business Machine.
Fun Fact: To help put himself through college, Brian used student loans, delivered pizzas, and worked summers in a salmon processing facility in Alaska. Fast forward a few decades and the new fun fact is the Brian is focusing on a new location for the firm in Columbia, Maryland. This firm was previously owned by Tom Bowman, a long-time friend of Brian.
